Effective Distance Education

Three basic points that are important for a successful distance education program are:

Design of the Information Format: It will not always be appropriate to use traditional education methods for distance education. In order to benefit from the benefits of new technologies, new forms of information need to be designed and created.

In Computer Assisted Learning (CAI): the computer is used to teach certain lessons to students for specific but limited purposes.

In Computer-Directed Learning (PCM): computers are used to organize instruction and store student records and achievement. In this system, instruction does not have to be given via computer, but CBI (instructional component) is often used together with CBL.

Communication via Computer (PCI): It is the use of computer applications to facilitate communication. Examples include electronic mail, computer conferencing, electronic bulletin boards and the WWW (World-Wide Web).
WRITING: The main element of distance education programs is printed resources and forms the basis for other tools. There are many types of printed resources available. These are textbooks, workbooks, lesson plans and supplementary books.
